Liposuction is a fat-removal procedure, not a weight-loss surgery. It works best if you are within about 15–20 lbs of your goal weight and have localized fat deposits that stubbornly resist diet and exercise.

Non-smokers are preferred. If you smoke, Dr. Aline Rau will ask you to stop for at least four weeks before and after surgery to support safe healing.
Procedure Details
Dr. Aline Rau is a board-certified plastic surgeon with fellowship training in aesthetic surgery.
She performs liposuction using the tumescent technique, a method in which a solution of saline, local anesthetic, and epinephrine is infused into the treatment area before fat removal.
This solution numbs the tissue, reduces bleeding, and allows for more precise, even contouring with less bruising and a smoother recovery.
Small incisions, typically under 5mm, are made in discreet locations. A thin, hollow tube called a cannula is passed through the incisions to loosen and remove fat. Dr. Aline Rau controls the amount, placement, and depth of each pass, which is why her technique and aesthetic eye matter as much as the technology itself.
For select patients, Dr. Aline Rau also offers BodyTite (radiofrequency-assisted lipolysis) and Avéli (cellulite treatment) as add-ons during the same procedure session.
Depending on the number of areas treated and your preferences, the procedure can be performed under local anesthesia (awake liposuction) or general anesthesia.
Awake Liposuction: A Safer, Faster Option for Many Patients
Awake liposuction means you remain comfortably conscious throughout the procedure. No general anesthesia, no anesthesiologist, no hospital visit. Dr. Aline Rau uses tumescent local anesthesia to completely numb the treatment area. Most patients report feeling pressure or movement, but not pain.
The advantages are real: no risks associated with general anesthesia, no nausea or grogginess on the way home, and a faster return to normal activity. In practice, the procedure takes place entirely in Amavi's private office suite in Greenwood Village. No surgical center or anesthesia fees.

What to Expect During Liposuction Recovery
Days 1–3
Rest and gentle movement
Soreness, swelling, and light drainage are normal. Compression garment worn 23 hrs/day. You can shower after 24 hours. Walking is encouraged from day one.
Days 3–5
Back to work
Most patients return to desk work within 3–5 days. Some numbness or tingling is normal — it fades with time. Compression garment continues under regular clothing.
Weeks 1–4
Compression around the clock
Garment stays on 23 hrs/day. Bruising begins to fade and drainage tapers off. Short walks encouraged in weeks 2–3. Early glimpses of your result begin to appear.
Weeks 4–10
Daytime wear and increasing activity
Compression transitions to daytime wear for 6 more weeks. Light exercise cleared around week 4; high-impact cardio and lifting at week 6.
Weeks 6–8
Bruising and swelling resolve
Most visible bruising and swelling are gone. Result is now clearly visible — most patients feel confident in fitted clothing and swimwear.
Months 3–6
Final contour comes into focus
Residual swelling fully dissipates and your final contour is permanently visible. Any lingering numbness will have resolved. Subtle refinement continues up to six months.
